Day 2 starts by going high and walking in some magnificent upland
scenery. You will leave Grassington and ascend to the top of the
eastern wall of Wharfedale and spend the morning walking amongst
limestone pavement, crags, limestone drystone walling, moorland and
spartan trees.
The uplands are not entirely empty though and mid morning you should pass one of many old limestone kilns.
The views of Wharfedale and, as you pass above the village of
Conistone, of Kilnsey Crag and the joining of Littondale to Wharfedale.
Finally you will descend into the valley bottom again for a well
earned lunch, and a beer or two perhaps, at one of several fine pubs of
Kettlewell. We chose the Kings Head.
Don't eat and drink too well though as during the afternoon to come
you will pass many more tempting eating and drinking establishments as
you return to following the river to the head of the dale.
